Not just for tech jobs anymore
While artificial intelligence used to be a thing of pure science fiction, it now imbues almost every aspect of our daily lives. As consumers depend more on products and services that use AI and machine learning, jobs requiring these skills have increased exponentially. Since January 2016, ZipRecruiter job postings that reference AI and machine learning skills have increased more than 2,000 percent.
We performed a deep dive into ZipRecruiter data on available jobs requiring these skills and found some surprising results. Although the tech industry still commands the greatest share of AI jobs, these skills are also mentioned in postings across the real estate, finance and sales sectors.
These are the top non-tech jobs that require knowledge of AI and machine learning:
Business development representative
Business development roles go by many names: Customer success manager, account executive, sales representative, and so on. Essentially, this role is the first point of contact in the sales pipeline and is responsible for generating new business.
The pay and level of responsibility associated with this job can vary widely. But one thing is clear: With AI and machine learning at the core of so many of today’s products and services, employers need sales representatives who are highly conversant in these technologies. Many of today’s open roles focus on B2B sales offering AI solutions for information security and management.
Real estate agent
Of the thousands of jobs on ZipRecruiter referencing AI and machine learning, real estate agent rivaled software engineer in the number of openings that mentioned these skills. The real estate industry is ripe for disruption, and many well-funded “hybrid” brokerages are leveraging AI to streamline the traditionally convoluted process of buying and selling a home.
Much has been made of these startups doing away with the real estate agent altogether. But the majority of business models currently operating in the space are combining AI with humans to increase efficiency and lower fees. While algorithms are learning client preferences and sending personalized emails on the agent’s behalf, the agent can step in when the human touch is truly needed.
Content marketing manager
Successful marketing is about knowing your customer and crafting messaging that makes them feel your brand is speaking directly to them. While it’s true human marketers are still integral to the process, AI has become a powerful engine for scaling and optimizing marketing campaigns.
Modern marketers use AI and machine learning to gather data on their customers and predict behavior. Equipped with AI tools, marketers are able to automate content that retains a personal touch while analyzing AI-generated feedback and predictive models to anticipate the content that will drive engagement and sales.
